In conjunction with the District Council of Yankalilla and the local community, the SVPA has undertaken many projects in the area including:

  • Beach access ramp and foreshore redevelopment (carpark boardwalk, heritage stone wall)

  • Re-commemoration of the historic Fanny Lipson Finniss statue

  • Shelter shed and equipment in the playground, including nature play snail trail and tables

  • Mosaic picnic tables (beach and WWI reserve)

  • Township entrance statement (opened in 2016 by His Excellency Hieu Van Le, Governor of South Australia)

  • Giant Christmas tree lights

  • Second Valley Heritage walking trail and information plaques

  • Jaitjakawengga Reserve Masterplan (petanque piste and revegetation)

The aim is to continue with improvements whilst maintaining the friendly village atmosphere we all enjoy.

The Association is self-funded but we rely upon the continued support of our members together with community grants. Other sources of revenue include market sausage sizzles, quiz nights, recycled bottles and cans and the Lions paper recycling shed under the pine trees opposite the playground.

The SVPA meets bi-monthly during the year, usually on a Friday night at the Second Valley Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. All are welcome to attend. The Association’s AGM is held in June each year.

The SVPA organises social events throughout the year for the local community which provide an ideal way for people to get to know others in the area. These include a quiz night, an Anzac Day dawn service, and the Second Valley World Petanque championships. The SVPA has also regularly entered a float in the Normanville New Year’s Eve pageant (winning float in 2019).

The SVPA is actively involved in arranging events during the bi-annual Heritage Fleurieu Coast Festival to celebrate the history of our local area. These have included guided walks on the heritage trail and the installation of plaques to mark historical sites in the area. In 2017 the SVPA organised an event to mark the centenary of the WWI monument near the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. In 2022 the SVPA co-ordinated an event at Second Valley Farm about the life of William Randall who owned the farm from 1850 - 1868.

SVPA members receive regular updates regarding upcoming events, social activities and opportunities to volunteer in local activities such as sausage sizzles and working bees.
